Helpful tips for packing

  1. Label each box with the room it will be going to in your new home (eg 'kitchen'). When the boxes are being carried in, they can be placed directly in the correct room, so all that needs to be done is to put the contents away.

  2. Keep a spare box aside marked 'op shop' for any unwanted items that are in a reasonable condition.

  3. When packing the kitchen, select a few pieces of essential cookware (eg a couple of pots, a frying pan, some spoons, a spatula and utensils) for the first day in your new home. Label the box 'Kitchen - First day'.

  4. If you're moving yourself, consider hiring a truck or a van that's big enough to fit all your possessions - this way you won't need to make multiple trips.

  5. Some removalists charge a 'depot to depot' fee. So it often pays to use a local moving company.
